Removable Full Dentures for Facial Integrity

If more than a few of your teeth are missing, you may need dentures to maintain normal chewing and avoid a collapsed appearance in your cheeks. Dentures are prosthetic teeth made to cover an entire palate. They are held in place with suction, often with the aid of denture adhesives. With recent advances in dentistry, dramatic improvements have been made to dentures to make them feel more comfortable, functional and aesthetically pleasing. Unlike dental implants, they can be removed and fit to accommodate a full mouth of missing teeth.

Consequently, chewing ability is improved as all of the designed teeth are designed to function uniformly. Full dentures are still a very common restoration used today for patients missing all of their teeth. Dentures also have aesthetic advantages. For example, they provide support for the lips and cheeks thereby correcting the collapsed appearance that occurs after losing teeth. Finally, by replacing missing teeth, dentures often improve speaking especially when the replacements involve front teeth.

It normally takes around five appointments to make standard full dentures. At the first visit, Dr. Sajoo will take an initial impression used to form accurate models of a patient's mouth. A more precise impression is then made for improved gum fit and bite determination. This is followed by a procedure that determines the size of the desired teeth; the relation of upper and lower teeth with the jaw-line; and the fullness of cheeks and lips required to create a natural looking smile. In the next stage, Dr. Sajoo will further examine patient comfort when biting. After minor adjustments and correction of pressure spots, a final appointment is made to outfit patients with the new dentures.
