Gum Reshaping and Contouring for Gummy Smiles
Although your teeth can provide you the perfect smile, sometimes your gums have an even greater impact on your smile. A common procedure in many smile makeovers today involves the reshaping of gums in order to correct a low gum line or uneven gum level. Otherwise known as a gummy smile, this overgrown gum tissue could hide your best appearance. At Smiles by Design, Dr. Sajoo can surgically contour the gum tissue in order to provide you a more aesthetically balanced appearance.

In some cases, a simple gum lift is all that is necessary to transform even the "gummiest" of smiles. The treatment is especially beneficial if your gums cover a significant portion of your front teeth or you tend to have a high upper lip when you smile. At Smiles by Design, Dr. Sajoo can also reshape the line along the gum into one that is proportionate with the size and shape of your teeth. This reshaping is often done to accommodate porcelain crowns and veneers.
In the past, these procedures were frightfully done with scalpels, heavy anesthesia and stitches. Today, however, we can remove this excess gum tissue with only minor oral surgery. And in many cases (e.g., where the underlying bone is not impacted), gum contouring can be painlessly handled with a laser in less than an hour. There is little discomfort; and, within just a few days after treatment, the gum tissue heals to a healthy looking pink and well-contoured shape that is perfectly arched over each tooth. The shaping in effect frames and complements your new teeth for a complete smile makeover.
As a non invasive procedure, you can listen to music or enjoy your favorite movie on flat screen televisions outfitted in every room. When we are done, you will be amazed at what a difference gum contouring can make, both to your smile and to your feeling of self-confidence. What's more, you can eat normally almost right away without experiencing discomfort.
